Call for Papers 2020–21!

IDIOM: English Undergraduate Academic Journal’s call for papers is now OPEN! 

The deadline to submit a paper for potential publication in Volume 15 is FRIDAY, JANUARY 15th, 2021 (11:59 P.M.).

Those interested in submitting their work for consideration should visit https://idiomjournal.wordpress.com/submit/ to complete the following three steps:

  1. Review the submission guidelines, 2020–21.
  2. Download the submission form, 2020–21.
  3. Email your essay and a completed submission form to idiom.submissions@gmail.com.

EXTENDED! Call for Editors (Volume 15, 2020–21)

IDIOM: English Undergraduate Academic Journal is EXTENDING its deadline for editor applications to Monday, November 23rd at 11:59pm! As a reminder, we are currently seeking new members to join the Editorial Board and assist with the production of the fifteenth volume of the journal. Applications are open for the following positions:

  • Two (2) Associate Editors – responsible for selecting and editing submissions of literary criticism for publication in the journal
  • One (1) Managing Editor – moderate all submissions during the selections process, communicate with authors

IDIOM Volume 14 Launch + Call for Editors

IDIOM: English Undergraduate Journal is pleased to announce the launch of Volume 14. This volume contains exemplary criticism written by undergraduate students at U of T on a variety of topics, from Shakespeare to Kazuo Ishiguro to Nalo Hopkinson. You may access the journal at our “Volumes” page. Enjoy!

Lower-year students are strongly encouraged to apply. Applications are open for the following positions:

During the first semester of the academic year, the time commitment expected of the Editorial Board will be relatively light, with the focus on planning and fundraising. The majority of the work will commence in January 2021, once submissions close, and the selections and editing process begins.

The deadline to submit applications for consideration is 11:59pm on Friday, November 20th, 2020. Successful applicants will be contacted for an interview the following week.

IDIOM 2019 Launch Party–Save the Date!

IDIOM is pleased to announce the launch of its 13th Volume this April! 
Our launch party will be hosted at Hart House on Thursday, April 4, 2019 from 6-9pm. It will begin in the Hart House Library with a short guest lecture by Jessica Duffin Wolfe, a Digital Communications and Journalism professor at Humber College and founding editor of the Toronto Review of Books. Following this, a short reception with (non-alcoholic) drinks and hors d’oeuvres will take place in the East Common Room, allowing for socializing and mingling of guests. The launch is a great way to connect and network with professors, the literary and academic communities here at UofT, and authors and editors.
We hope to see you there!
